Wireless charging for smartphones is already here, but it’s not quite at the level we’d been hoping for.
While the lack of tangled cables is certainly helpful, the fact that you’ve got to leave it sitting on top of the charging port the whole time feels it defeats the purpose somewhat.
That could be about to change though, as Bloomberg are reporting that Apple are readying a high-powered wireless charger to allow users to charge their phones from a number of feet away.
The report claims that Apple are experimenting with using radio waves to pass through an aluminium case for the phone, and is expected to be rolled out some time next year.
Apple already use a more limited system of wireless charging for the Apple Watch, but they’ve yet to make it available on the iPhone.
