Michaella McCollum Connolly, one of the two women jailed in Peru after trying to smuggle £1.5 million worth of cocaine into the country, has been released from prison, according to her solicitor.
The pair were jailed for six years and eight months in 2013, but McCollum Connolly, from Northern Ireland, has been released after just over two years.
There is currently no word on whether Melissa Reid, who was jailed along with McCollum Connolly, has been released from prison.
“I can confirm Michaella has been released from jail and I’m waiting to hear the outcome of the judicial process,’ said McCollum’s solicitor, Kevin Winters.
The Daily Mail reports that McCollum Connolly has been released on parole, and it is currently unclear if she will be able to return to Northern Ireland as part of the conditions.
