Phillip Schofield suggests Harry and Meghan ‘shut up now’

Phillip and Holly were speaking to royal biographer Gyles Brandreth about recent revelations that Harry has started speaking to his father and brother again

Phillip Schofield asked whether the Sussexes had “stabbed a knife through the heart of the monarchy.”

Phillip and Holly were speaking to royal biographer Gyles Brandreth and fellow presenter Beverley Turner, discussing the recent revelations that Harry has indeed spoken to William and Charles since the Oprah interview, but that the talks “were not productive.”

These were the claims that US TV host and friend of Meghan Markle’s Gayle King made this week, revealing that Meghan had told her about the talks.

During the discussion, Schofield made the point that, despite the sympathy that the Royal couple had received in the aftermath of the interview, in regards to the race and mental health issues that they brought up, the polls suggested that this was “ebbing away.”

Talking to Gyles Brandreth, Schofield asked: “Isn’t there this feeling Gyles, that you’ve made your point, essentially shut up now and get on with your quiet American life, you’ve stabbed a knife through the heart of the monarchy… but stop now.”

Now, it’s true that Schofe wasn’t technically making these accusations himself, instead asking whether that feeling existed amongst the public, but Schofield did appear to show more than a hint of frustration with the topic, and it is not difficult to read between the lines on this one.

For the TV presenter this is probably the closest we’re going to get to some sort of explosive rant or rage. It’s difficult to think of many TV personalities who are less controversial. Everyone’s favourite silver fox has built a career on being difficult to dislike (although there’s no doubt he does have haters.)

But honestly would it be much of a surprise to anyone if it turned out that he was perhaps more inclined to back up the Royal Family on this one as oppose to Meghan and Harry? After the very pally interview that he and Holly gave to Boris Johnson in the run up to the 2019 general election (who can forget that selfie), he’s not exactly an anti-establishment figure.
