Police have appealed for information to help trace Clarke Carlisle after the former footballer’s family reported him missing on Friday.
A tweet from his wife, Carrie, said the 37-year-old is thought to have been in Manchester city centre at around 6am on Friday morning. He was last seen by his family in Preston on Thursday afternoon.

Carlisle has a history of mental health issues and spent time in a psychiatric unit in 2014 after he was hit by a lorry. He later admitted that he had stepped in front of the vehicle because he “wanted to die”. Since then, he has spoken about his own battles with mental health issues in a bid to raise awareness.
“We are extremely concerned about Clarke and we would urge anyone who sees him or knows where he is to get in touch with us,” said DCI Steve Holgate of Lancashire police.
“We would also appeal directly to Clarke himself to contact us if he sees this appeal to let us know he is safe.”
Carlisle played for nine different clubs during his playing career, which ended in 2013. Burnley, the club which he won promotion to the Premier League with in 2009, shared the following tweet as the news that he was missing began to break on Friday.
