“Ma’am, step away from the cracker”
Police will enter homes to break up Christmas celebrations if they receive reports from the public of rule-breaking, a police commissioner has confirmed.
David Jamieson, the West Midlands police and crime commissioner, said police will investigate any reports of rule-breaking over the festive season.
“If we think there’s large groups of people gathering where they shouldn’t be, then police will have to intervene,’ he told the Telegraph.
“If, again, there’s flagrant breaking of the rules, then the police would have to enforce.
“It’s not the police’s job to stop people enjoying their Christmas. However, we are there to enforce the rules that the Government makes, and if the Government makes those rules then the Government has to explain that to the public.”
At present, household mixing is banned in the United Kingdom after further restrictions were enacted to try and halt the rise in coronavirus cases, and it appears unlikely that there will be any relaxation of rules over Christmas.
This means that families will be unable to congregate for celebrations over the festive period, unless they want to risk breaking rules and, potentially, being visited by police.
