Where to start with this one.
Firstly, it must be stressed that the validity of these reports is being seriously questioned. That said, an overnight story published by BuzzFeed claims that the Russian government have been “cultivating, supporting and assisting” Donald Trump for years – and that they have compromising information about the President-Elect instigating a sex act on a bed used by Barack and Michelle Obama.
Believe it or not, these are some of the allegations in an unverified dossier from someone claiming to be a former British intelligence official. It states that the Russian authorities hoped to exploit ‘compromising material’ about Trump hiring the same presidential suite used by the Obamas at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Moscow, and “employing a number of prostitutes to perform a ‘golden showers’ (urination) show in front of him.”

Ben Smith, BuzzFeed’s Editor-In-Chief, issued the following statement about the report, explaining why the site had published the story based on unverified evidence. The gist seems to be that they wanted their readers to make up their own minds in the name of transparency:

The somewhat dubious nature of the allegations didn’t of course stop Twitter having a field day with the rumours…
