Sex workers devastated over OnlyFans’ ban on sexually explicit content

There are fears that the ban on explicit content will cut off the income for many.

OnlyFans is coming under fire for its decision to ban sexually explicit content from the platform from October 1.

The company has announced that while people will still be able to post nude content, it must comply with their terms of service and the platform will now “prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually explicit conduct.”

But many have called out the site for abandoning sex workers and cutting off what for many is their main source of income.

Replying to a tweet criticising the site for the move, one sex worker wrote: “It sucks because there’s very few things I can do to get income and OF is just going out of the way to make it harder for us.”

Another content creator on the site said that they were “honestly at the end of my patience with these companies.”

One Twitter user said that OnlyFans was “throwing the sex workers that made the platform successful to the curb.”

Meanwhile, lawyer Kim Kelly accused the platform of “tossing” sex workers aside and “removing a vital source of income from a population of workers who are disproportionately marginalized and have no protections under U.S. labor law.”

In a statement, OnlyFans said: “OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually explicit conduct.

“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines.”

OnlyFans has seen a huge growth over the last couple of years, with the company generating $2 billion in revenue last year alone.

But the platform has come under pressure in recent months to do more to deal with illegal content on the site and content posted by underage users.
