Technology is scary, but nature is scarier
Hurricane Florence is currently hammering the East Coast of the United States, hitting the states of North and South Carolina. Coastal areas are already enduring winds of up to 90 mph and catastrophic flooding, and more than 100,000 homes are already without electricity,
Water levels could rise as high as 13ft in some areas, causing untold damage. One million people are already under evacuation orders. “The worst of the storm is not yet here but these are early warnings of the days to come,” North Carolina governor Roy Cooper said. “Surviving this storm will be a test of endurance, teamwork, common sense and patience.”
To illustrate how bad the potential flooding could be, The Weather Channel used an incredible – and terrifying – visualisation that saw Meteorologist Erika Navarro stood in front of a rising water level, going up and up, until the water would have completely engulfed her. And then some.
