Awful news.
A van was involved in a collision with pedestrians in Barcelona on Thursday, with local police suspecting that the incident is terror-related. The crash took place on Las Ramblas, a busy tree-lined promenade in the centre of the city popular with locals and tourists alike.
Spanish police say several people have been injured in a “massive crash”, and local emergency services are urging people to stay away from the area around Plaça Catalunya. Reports from the scene of the incident claim people are taking cover in nearby shops and cafes.
El Pais are reporting that the driver of the van fled on foot. Reuters news agency state that emergency services have requested the closure of local metro and train stations.
There are unconfirmed reports that at least one person have been killed.
