Unconfirmed reports suggest one person has been shot.
Breaking news from Washington DC this evening as a security alert is issued at The White House.
According to CNN, gunfire was heard by a presidential mansion entrance and the area has been placed on lockdown as a result.

US Park Police cleared The White House north lawn following the gunshots and press corps have been requested to hold shelter in the basement.
The latest Twitter update from CNN’s Shimon Prokupecz suggests the suspect is already in custody.

President Obama and family are said not to be located within the grounds of The White House at this time. According to POTUS schedule, Obama is playing golf at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
