A gunman is in custody after an incident at Capitol Hill in Washington DC this evening, according to reports.
There were multiple reports of shots being fired at Capitol Hill, also known as the US House of Congress – where many US representatives are based.
It has also been reported that the shooter is down, and that nobody has been injured seriously. Roll Call, a leading source of Congressional news, has reported that one person was shot but is not injured grievously and is being transported to hospital.
The House of Congress is now in lockdown, as is The White House, which is about 20 minutes from the site of the shooting.
UPDATE: From House Sergeant at Arms office: Still trying to confirm if it was police officer or civilian was shot/being taken to hospital.
