The UK has followed the US ban on laptops and other electronic devices with new airline regulations introduced.
The restrictions which apply to laptops, tablets, DVD players and phones over a certain size, will impact anyone that’s flying into the UK from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.
The move is similar to the recent restrictions that were introduced by the US Department of Homeland Security where flights from airports in a host of Muslim majority countries are now being subjected to the recent US policy.
The six affected UK carriers are Thomson, Thomas Cook, Monarch, British Airways, EasyJet and Jet2.com.
The eight overseas airlines subject to the ban are Pegasus Airways, Turkish Airlines, Middle East Airlines, Egyptair, Saudia, Atlas-Global Airlines, Tunis Air and Royal Jordanian.
The decision by the UK government is understood to have come after several weeks of meetings about airline security. The ban applies to any device that’s larger than 16cm long, 9.3cm wide or 1.5cm deep.
