Both mother and baby are “doing very well”
Prime minister Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds have welcomed their first child together.
Symonds gave birth to a “healthy baby boy” today in a London hospital, a spokesperson for the couple has confirmed.
“The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds are thrilled to announce the birth of a healthy baby boy at a London hospital earlier this morning,” they said.
“Both mother and baby are doing very well.
“The PM and Ms Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”
The couple announced their engagement at the end of last year following a year long relationship.
They revealed that they were expecting their first child in February and have been living together in London’s Downing Street since July.
Johnson is believed to have five other children from previous relationships.
