How does it feel to be rejected by the country you’ve lived in for three decades?
Chef Richard Bertinet has lived in the United Kingdom for 31 years; longer than he has lived in his native France.
Originally from Brittany in France, Bertinet moved to Britain in the late 1980s and settled in Bath, where he now runs a successful bakery and baking school.
Despite living in the UK for three decades, being acclaimed within his profession and owning a business, he – like so many others – was rejected for settled status when he applied for the EU Settlement Scheme, and instead was granted Pre-Settled Status.
JOE travelled to Bath to speak to Bertinet to find out how it feels to be rejected by the nation in which you’ve built a family and a life.
After 31 years living in Britain this chef was wrongly told he could only stay for five more years.
