The boxing legend still wants Holyfield vs Tyson III to go ahead

Evander Holyfield‘s return to the ring did have the dream outcome, with the fight against Vitor Belfort being called on a TKO in just the first round, but the boxing legend still wants to follow up on his promise to bring us Holyfield vs Tyson III.

Speaking after the fight on Saturday night, the 58-year-old was asked whether he’d still like to take on ‘Iron Mike‘, 55, he said, simply: “Of course I would.”

Established rivals Tyson and Holyfield are firm friends these days

‘The Real Deal’ himself wasn’t entirely happy with the decision made by the referee on the night, stating that he thinks the stoppage “was a bad call, he shouldn’t have stopped the fight that quick.”

“I wasn’t hurt. There wasn’t no shot that hurt me real bad. He got me with a shot and I was off balance. I’m not hurt. It’s kind of sad”. However, he did admit that his opponent was more than up to the task: “The guy pushed me, the guy is strong”.

The first two Tyson vs Holyfield fights in 1996 and ’97 were some of the biggest of their time and though the animosity had moved more towards friendship as they’ve gotten older, they’re still fighters at heart and would clearly love nothing more than give fight fans one last show.

Evander Holyfield still wants to fight Mike Tyson and regardless of how smooth a boxing comeback the former has had, we want it too.
