The family of Liam Miller will receive some of the money raised from Celtic captain Scott Brown’s testimonial.
The FAI have confirmed that a Republic of Ireland XI will be Celtic’s opponents in the match, which is scheduled to take place at Celtic Park on Sunday May 20 – the day after the Scottish Cup final.
As reported by the Daily Record, the money raised from the game will go to a number of charities, to be decided by Brown. The family of Miller, who tragically died in February after a battle with cancer, are also understood to be set to receive some of the proceeds raised.
Miller, a former Irish international, joined Celtic as a youth player, leaving the Glasgow club to join Manchester United in 2004. He would go on to play for Leeds United, Sunderland, Queens Park Rangers and Hibernian, as well as playing in Australia, the US and for home town club, Cork City.
It was announced in November of last year that he was undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer in America, with Celtic amongst those to offer a message of support to him at the time.
Following the news of his death last month, many of his former teammates have paid tribute to him, as has his former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
