Well-known white nationalist gets punched in the face during live inauguration coverage

Given the toxic atmosphere that prevailed on the campaign trail during the election, it was somewhat inevitable that there were going to be scenes of unrest during Donald Trump’s inauguration on Friday.

On the streets of Washington, Richard Spencer, a white nationalist well known for his controversial views on issues such as white supremacy and same-sex marriage, was punched in the face while recording footage for a documentary about him shortly after Donald Trump was officially sworn in on Friday.

Spencer was asked by onlookers if he was a neo-Nazi and whether he would marry a black woman before being blindsided by a hooded assailant who landed a heavy blow to the side of Spencer’s face before running away.

Spencer managed to stay on his feet after receiving the punch and later denounced the attack publicly on Twitter, claiming that he was also spat on shortly afterwards.
