The NYPD dispatched police officers to other media offices around New York.

“We do have fatalities and we do have serious injuries. We also have many, many witnesses being interviewed.”

Police did not confirm the number of people killed but other emergency services are reporting four fatalities, according to Baltimore Metro News.

The authorities are yet to specify the weapon used but several federal agencies are involved, including the FBI.

Maryland governor Larry Hogan tweeted he was “absolutely devastated” by events at the Capital Gazette’s newsroom.
