‘I thought it was an interesting and eye-catching way to raise awareness for something quite serious’
A Dublin resident has raised nearly €2,000 for Movember by running routes that look strangely familiar – we just can’t remember where we have seen them before.
Shane Moore from Marino, Dublin had the ingenious idea to “run a dick a day” for Movember, the global charitable movement focused on men’s health.

Each year, countless people shave their facial hair for the cause and with it, either make themselves look like 70’s pornstars or less than reputable members of society.
In 2020 alone, the charity raised $99.5 million to aid in the fight against prostate cancer and testicular cancer and funnel money into better mental health services.
“I did a d**k-shaped cycle back in March just for a laugh. On Strava, you can actually draw out your routes and one Clontarf shape caught my eye,” Moore told Dublin Live.
“On Halloween, I had planned on doing a run anyway after just moving to Clontarf. You can get creative on runs because it’s a lot of time by yourself. Sometimes the stupid ideas are the best ones.”

Moore admitted he couldn’t grow a moustache, which might be a blessing considering he said, “people would probably report me if they saw me with a moustache”.
He added: “Obviously, it’s about men’s health issues like testicular cancer. I thought it was an interesting and eye-catching way to raise awareness for something quite serious.”
Moore had initially aimed to raise €500 but completely smashed that target and has raked in €1,686.90.

“I’ve had my struggles with mental health and I wanted to help people who might need help, in a way that wasn’t incredibly serious,” he added.
