Donald Trump woke up the world with another set of sensational tweets this morning, when he claimed without providing any evidence that his predecessor Barack Obama “tapped” Trump’s phones during the election process.
In a flurry of tweets, Trump announced that he had “just found out that Obama had [his] ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower jus before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!”
Trump continued the tirade, but offered no evidence to re-enforce what he was saying.
Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my "wires tapped" in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!

I'd bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election!

How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!

Hours later, Trump’s predecessor responded — though not on Trump’s preferred medium of Twitter.
A spokesperson for Obama flatly denied the claims, saying ““A cardinal rule of the Obama administration was that no White House official ever interfered with any independent investigation led by the Department of Justice. President Obama nor any White House official ever ordered surveillance on any US citizen.”
