The situation is under control and no injuries to police officers or members of the public have been reported.
A security operation is underway in Paris after a car crashed into a police van near the Champs Elysees on Monday afternoon.
According to French news agency AFP, the car burst into flames upon impact and the driver was seriously injured as a result. The driver is also believed to have been armed.

Police in Paris say the situation is under control and that no injuries were sustained by police officials or members of the public.

The incident comes less than 24 hours after a man drove a car into a mosque in London; one person died and another ten were injured as a result.
