Donald Trump has shown on several occasions that he has no reservations about using tragic events to promote his own agenda.
However, using last night’s terrorist attacks on London Bridge and in Borough Market to thumb his nose at gun control activists has left a particularly bad taste in the mouths of many social media users.
Having already used the opportunity to call for his travel ban to be reinstated and beef with London Mayor Sadiq Khan for trying to project an air of calmness after tragedy, Trump posted: “Do you notice we are not having a gun debate right now? That’s because they used knives and a truck.”

The population of Twitter wasted no time in pointing out that had the attackers been armed with guns, the outcome would have been far worse.

Trump's reaction to London an embarrassment to US & should shame all politicians who stand by him. Trolling Sadiq Khan? Gloating about guns?

And if that is all we had to use in this country, we would greatly reduce our gun deaths in this country @realDonaldTrump #NRA #guncontrol pic.twitter.com/D18sAghT3m

I think Donald Trump either wants to give the terrorists guns or ban knives and trucks. https://t.co/f2c5wY8tab

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker shot back at Trump, writing: “Imagine the carnage if they’d have had machine guns. This man will use any tragedy to push his own agendas.”
