Meghan Markle paid tribute to Prince Philip at his funeral on Saturday with a handwritten card that was part of the wreath that Meghan and her husband Prince Harry left for Philip.

The Duchess of Sussex was unable to travel to the UK with Harry to attend the funeral due to her pregnancy with her second child. Markle was advised by doctors not to fly. Watching the service from more than 5,000 miles away at her home in California though, Markle was still able to pay tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh.

The duchess left a handwritten note on the wreath from her and Harry. Markle is known for her calligraphy skills and used to write wedding invitations, advising customers on invitations for special occasions and even teaching calligraphy classes.

Both Meghan and Harry personally chose the flowers for the floral tribute. All the flowers in the wreath were locally-sourced, with each one honouring a specific part of Prince Philip’s life.

This included Acanthus mollis (Bear’s breeches), the national flower of Greece, in honour of Philip’s heritage and country of birth, Eryngium (sea holly) to represent the Royal Marines, and roses in honour of June being the month of the duke’s birthday.

The wreath was also made up of campanula to represent gratitude and everlasting love, rosemary to signify remembrance, and lavender for devotion.

The wreath was designed and made by Willow Crossley, who also made the flower arrangements for Harry and Meghan’s evening wedding celebrations in 2018, and their son Archie’s christening.

Prince Philip was laid to rest on Saturday in a moving service, attended by just 30 members of his close family.
