Now doesn’t seem like the right time for some reason.
Vanity Fair is one of the most recognisable and well-known magazines in the world and making the front cover is a pretty big deal indeed.
In a month where her husband was officially sworn in as president of the United States of America, it’s no surprise that the First Lady, Melania, would make the front cover, given the level of interest in the latest residents of the White House at the moment.

That said, it seems a bit of a surprise that she would pop up on the cover of the February issue of Vanity Fair in Mexico, considering that her husband signed an executive order calling for a “large physical barrier” between the US and Mexico, delivering upon a promise often repeated during his election campaign.
Trump doing so did not go down well with the president of Mexico, nor one of his predecessors for that matter. Unperturbed, it was an issue revisited by Trump on Twitter on Friday morning.
Mexico has taken advantage of the U.S. for long enough. Massive trade deficits & little help on the very weak border must change, NOW!

With all that in mind, the magazine probably could’ve picked a more suitable time to put Melania on the cover but the second problem a lot of people had was with the cover itself.
More precisely, why is she seemingly… eating out of a bowl of jewellery?
