“It is, empirically, a stunning allegation for which the White House is providing no evidence. And there is a reason they are providing no evidence, there is no evidence.”
It was hardly a bed of roses throughout the election, but Donald Trump’s relationship with the media has seemingly deteriorated even further since he officially became president just a few days ago.
Following the controversy over the size of the crowds at his inauguration in Washington on Friday, Trump repeated his belief earlier this week that the reason he lost the popular vote in the election was because there were millions of votes cast illegally for his rival, Hillary Clinton.
At a White House press briefing on Tuesday, new press secretary Sean Spicer addressed the issues regarding voter fraud in a rather vague manner, claiming that Trump’s comments about the election were based on “studies and information he has,” and refusing to be drawn into specific details despite pressure from the assembled media.
Trump’s claims drew short shrift from CNN’s Jake Tapper on Tuesday night, as the CNN anchor calmly made light of the lack of evidence to back them up and outlined the wide-ranging implications if what he’s alleging is actually true.
