Millions of people turned out at Women’s Marches around the globe in protest at the presidency of Donald Trump on Saturday; an estimated 3 million people attended various marches in the US, while, closer to home, marches also took place in Dublin and Galway.
The Women’s March in London was attended by an estimated 100,000 people, including Sir Ian McKellen, who described it as “the longest I have been on” and said it was “a good beginning” for those who oppose Trump’s presidency and “cannot let him reign unchallenged”.
McKellen was pictured at the march wielding a placard featuring his good friend Sir Patrick Stewart adopting a pose that has become the focal point for one of the most famous memes on the Internet.
Given the message the marches intended to send out, it seemed entirely appropriate…
McKellen added that the placard was not his own, but one that he found at the end of the march in Trafalgar Square.
